In my time in the gym I see people spending hours on the treadmill, this is fine, you will burn calories whilst on the equipment. We need to train the heart and lungs!
Here's something to consider:
You don't want to have to spend hours on the treadmill or rower like a hamster when you can spend less time doing resistance training, be more efficient and achieve better results!
Imagine going to the gym, going running (which will fatigue your legs) then doing Barbell back squats! This will limit how much we can put into squatting.
We should aim to go to the gym to build and maintain muscle. This is a long term method of getting results!!
Strength training has so many health benefits, by stimulating muscle growth, muscle maintenance, strength, bone density to name a few! In a short session we can have great results!
Women shouldn't worry about building excessive muscle or being bulky, you simply don't have the same amount of testosterone as men and you would have to put a lot of work in. But for certain goals you will need to lift weights.
For instance, you can't “grow your glutes” without hypertrophy training!
Learning skills and techniques you can use whilst strength training will benefit you for the rest of your life! It's important we maintain strength and power as we age by maintaining muscle mass!
When we talk about programming, the most difficult things should be done first. So why not put your main effort into lifts, utilizing progressive overload and different methods to gain the required result? You can always complete the training session with some time on the treadmill or rower!
Heaps more information here, we simply can't write everything in a post!
